About me
Originally from Japan, Akari Tamura is a Yoga Teacher, Kirtan Leader, and Multi-Instrumentalist, based in Koh Phangan, Thailand. She tours Europe during the summer and autumn seasons.Akari is known for her inspirational teaching style and self-expression rooted in healing, love, and empowerment. With deep sincerity and devotion to her own practice and life, she shares embodied wisdom from the heart, inspiring students around the world.By incorporating the vibrational power of the spiritual heart through Sankalpa (heartfelt intention) and Bhavana (deep feeling in the moment), Akari creates and holds a sacred space for both the outer physical and inner spiritual journey of her students.Since 2006, she has devoted herself to the study of traditional Hatha Yoga, Tantra Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Hinduism, Jnana Yoga (meditation and self-inquiry), Advaita (non-duality), Tibetan Buddhism, and Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. With deep respect for all lineages, she began teaching internationally in 2013, offering classes, workshops, retreats, and teacher trainings in Australia, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, India, France, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany.Akari’s teaching integrates asana, pranayama, vinyasa, meditation, Tantra, physical and energy anatomy, self-inquiry, mudra, mantra, mythology, and a vast depth of yogic philosophy. In addition to being a yoga teacher, Akari is a well-known Kirtan leader with a decade-long background in classical music. She believes music is a way to connect to the center of our vastness — just as it was used as a vehicle for liberation during the Vedic times in India.Akari’s diverse background also includes a degree in sociology, humanitarian work in Africa and Southeast Asia, permaculture design and off-grid living, as well as extensive training and experience in Theta Healing, aromatherapy, herbalism, massage, and bodywork. Her dharma (soul purpose) is to elevate human consciousness into expansive love — through the practice of yoga, the art of music, the power of intention, and the radical affirmation of both light and shadow within. She walks this yogic path with gratitude and passion, cherishing the most intimate relationship of all — the one between self and the Divine.Home is where the heart is.To become a channel of light (pure consciousness) within the unfolding lotus of the seven chakras is her highest vision.
